Bout of Books

Hi all!  If you have checked out my blog AT ALL, you've probably figured out that I love doing reading challenges.  One of my favorites is the Dewey's 24 hour Readathon.  I have done it a couple times.  Well, I didn't get a chance to do the Dewey in April this year, but I did participate in spirit and read when I wasn't working and doing some family stuff. 

Anyway, I was looking around the Dewey Readathon Facebook page, and heard about the Bout of Books Reading Challenge.  It is a week long challenge in which each person just makes a commitment to read more in one week than they do normally.  Of course, my first thought was "Awesome, reading!"  That was followed closely by: "I have to sign up right now!"

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. I am not sure what I will try to read during that week - I just know it's going to be fabulous, and I am going to try and get a lot of reading in.  I hope you'll join me!

The {October} 24 Hour Read-A-Thon

Well, folks, it's September.  That means in just a couple weeks (on October 12th, to be exact) I will be doing the 24 hour readathon again!  I can't wait!  Now, I never promise that I'll make it through the entire 24 hours, but I'll sure try.  As long as I get a chance to read as late into the night as I can make it, I'm a happy camper!  I haven't finalized my list yet, but here are some of the books I am going to read during this October's readathon!

I feel like I am reading very slowly today. So far I have:

*Finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
*Finished Volume 1 of Kare Kono.
*Started Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Before the night is through (or before I fall asleep from exhaustion) I would like to:

*Complete Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
*Read Kare Kono Volume #2
*Read Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief
*Read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I feel like I am being very ambitious, however, because I was up late last night scrapbooking with some friends, so I am a titch on the tired side today. I will, however, read as long as I can manage to stay awake. Since I want to read as much as possible, This will be my last blog post for today, but I will be (infrequently) around the twittersphere!

24 Hour Readathon

That's right, it's that special time of year again. The time when readers around the world go crazy staying up for 24 hours to read. Are we out of our minds? Probably. Do we love to do it? Absolutely!

Yep, I've gone and signed up again to participate in Dewey's 24 Hour ReadAThon again. I've yet to pick out the books, as they vary based on what I'm in the mood to read. So stay tuned to what I decide and how I feel after making it through this crazy event.

Love, Stargirl

Having found and loved Stargirl at the library, I thought that I would enjoy Love, Stargirl just as much. So, after listening to about three chapters of HP and the Goblet of Fire, I read Love, Stargirl. It was fantastic! Just as good as the first. Jerry Spinelli has this way of drawing a reader into Stargirls world and making them cheer for her.

The quirky, offbeat characters were just one of the many things that I loved about this book. It was funny, sad, and so many other things rolled into one. It took on teen love without making it seem dopey or cliched. It looked at the fact that teenagers can and do feel this amazing pull in them for other people. That they can fall in love, fall out of love, get hurt, make amends, heal, and do so many other things that adults don't give them credit for.

Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough for people of any age.

Have now started reading Charlie Bone and the Invisible Boy and will probably do The Austere Academy next.

Harry Potter

So, after a long night last night babysitting for some friends, I was wondering if I was going to be able to pop out of bed this morning to start the readathon on time. But thanks to my lovely phone blaring The Pretender by the Foo Fighters and my friend coffee, I was up and at em in time. I started reading Love, Stargirl and have read about 20 pages so far, but decided that for a bit, until my head is completely awake, I am going to listen to Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.

I love all the HP books. They are just fantastic! So far, I am really digging Love, Stargirl as well. I think that I will finish that one quickly but already have a feeling I'll like it. Anyway, hope you are all enjoying the readathon so far!

24 Hour Readathon List

So, last week, I mentioned that I am going to do the 24 hour readathon on the 9th. I'm not promising that I will read the entire 24 hours. I do need sleep after all. But I'll try to read as long as I can. This is the list of books I've decided on for this readathon:

The Penultimate Peril and Me and my Brothers

I was reading this morning for the 24 hour read-a-thon, and being the big geek that I am, I am already halfway through The Penultimate Peril, and Me and My brothers Vol 1 because I have been darting between the two.

However, I might have to abandon them for a bit because I just picked up The Host, Stephenie Meyers new book, from the public library, and it looks soooo good. If it's as good as Twilight, I'll probably finish it in one day.

24 Hour Readathon

So, I was looking at a book blog site I am on, and I read about something called the 24 hour readathon. I thought, what is this curious 24 hour readathon thing? So, I went and checked out their website and... signed up to join in on this nice little readathon. It goes from October 24 to October 25, and readers are free to read what they want and for however long out of the 24 hour period they want. So, I wrote down a list of books I'd like to read during this period. Keep in mind, there's no way I'll get through all these books, but at least I'll have a variety to keep me occupied for however long I sit around and read. This is a bookworms dream come true :)
